Uppymama Celadon is our newest custom wrap design. This unique design was created as a gift for someone who is very dear to our hearts here at Uppymama.
Kristy Westendorp has been working closely with the Uppymama team for a number of years.
We are so grateful for her photography mentorship, her wisdom, her pep talks and her excellent spelling and grammar.
There comes a time in every wrap-obsessed mama’s life when she has to acknowledge that her babywearing days are coming to a close.
With Kristy’s youngest turning three and no babies left to wear, she was forced to get a new hobby. For the past year and a bit she has been spending a lot of time at the pottery studio creating bowls and cups out of clay.
We were inspired to design a wrap based on one of her pieces. When your little one is all snug and cozy in the pale grey-green Celadon you can think of the days to come when you will miss having your little one next to you. Rest assured that when the time comes you will find new exciting ventures!
Our babies start out needing us all the time. If we do our jobs right, they feel comfortable to explore further and further from us as they grow. So enjoy the time while they are little.
Even on the days when you are running on no sleep and it feels impossible, try to remember that one day (believe it or not) you will miss this.
As new parents, we are so often focused on our newborns and everything we need to learn and gather for our new tiny humans. Babywearing skills tend to be easiest to learn when our little ones are tiny. They can’t go anywhere while we figure out our wraps or ring slings.
As amazing as babywearing feels when our wee little ones are snuggled against our chests, babywearing is really an investment in maintaining sanity during the pending toddler years. We need those babywearing skills when our babies somehow magically transform into toddlers overnight.
One moment they are all snuggles and the next they are on the run, busy exploring the world.
Toddlers will take a quick break for a moment of closeness with mama. Then off they go again. More to learn, more to explore!! Babywearing brings so much ease to parenting a busy toddler. Toddlers are up and down faster than an elevator! When teaching new parents about babywearing and attachment parenting we always encourage acceptance of what is. Acceptance is really the answer to most parenting problems. With the needs of growing babies through the “pick me up/put me down” phase we think it’s often most simple to just put a ring sling on in the morning like an article of clothing so we are always ready for those quick ups and downs.
While we love our rainbows and hot pink wraps as much as the next babywearer, it can be nice to have a beautiful neutral when you’re wearing a wrap all day long. Pop your baby or toddler in (and out and in and out) of Celadon and enjoy the snuggles while they last because before you know it you’ll notice your wrap empty more often than not and you may just find yourself googling “local pottery classes”.
Snapping a few (ok, more than a few) pictures of this wrap was so much fun!! We got to visit with one of our favourite families on what just happened to be ‘Dad’s artisan sourdough bread baking day’. We wish we could magically make these picture scratch and sniff so you could smell the glorious aroma of baking bread filling the house.
The real fun of this photo journey was the joy of watching this toddler be a toddler in his natural habitat. Have a look at all the things we got into.
How about up Mama?
The best place to see everything is on Mama’s back
What is Daddy up to?
Fresh herbs and grated cheese?
This sure looks yummy!!
On the move again…
but look at that bread dough!!
So much to explore
Up again please Mama
Changed my mind
Might as well just leave this sling on
Up, up, up
Up we go…
No, no, down, I need to go…
Good, Dad’s arms are free,
Up with Dad.
That’s where I want to be.
But what is that?
I need to see…
Up and down, down and up.
Mama needs coffee!!
Look at those sleepy eyes…
Nap time?
Daddy tries…
But sometimes I just need Mama for naps
“I know I left my coffee somewhere”
He’s off again, fight the nap!
Now what has Dad got over there?
“Let me up so I can see”
Now a ride on Mama’s knee
Hey Mama, let’s have a play
I don’t need a nap, no way!!
…but maybe just a little snuggle?
Maybe just a little nurse?
Getting sleepy? Will it work?
No no, let me out again
It’s still time to play!!
Peek-a-boo in Mama’s sling
Puppets show
Must keep moving…
Now maybe a nap is coming soon
In your pouch Mama, make some room
Soon you’ll see this sleepy head
Look Mama did it
Wrap nap win!!
Nurse him so he stays asleep
Humans love to sleep near to other humans
…it’s so safe and cozy
Now let’s get on with that bread!!
Scratch and sniff (we wish you could smell how amazing this is)
Best to start with butter and jam
Or maybe you’re more of an avocado on fresh baked sourdough kind of person?
Enough said!!
They will always remember the weekend afternoons when Dad baked bread.
Family and good food the most important things in life.
Wrap nap brought to you by Uppymama Celadon
